Dimethicone Allergy
77
Dimethicone is an ingredient in a majority of beauty products and skincare on the market. It is used to smooth the skin and fill in fine lines. It is also used to smooth down the hair cuticle, so it is prevalent in conditioners and haircare products. The highest concentrations of dimethicone is in silicone-based products such as defrizzing serums for hair and makeup bases or foundation primers. Many foundations also contain dimethicone as one of the first ingredients.
If you or someone you know is having an allergic reaction to makeup or a hair product, it is likely from dimethicone, PEGs or fragrance. You may read more about PEG derivatives from soy on this page.
How To Diagnose Dimethicone Allergy
Discontinue use of the possible culprit and see your dermatologist or allergist right away if you are having a reaction. Don't delay--allergies are temperamental and could easily get much worse. Besides not wanting to mess with your face, contact dermatitis and eczema may be relived with creams the doctor can prescribe for you.
Living with dimethicone allergy will show you just how many products are actually pure. You will have to learn to shop at health food stores because they tend to carry more natural products which do not contain dimethicone or other chemicals
Dimethicone-Free Living
As a makeup-artist for the past thirteen years, I lived with dimethicone allergy and let me tell you, it is no walk in the park. I noticed while working with different brands that my skin would break out in hives and rashes and sometimes my face would itch to no end. Relief came when I wore no makeup and slathered my face in Vaseline after the shower.
I got out of makeup for this reason and hope to help others learn what products are safe. I am also allergic to soy, so many PEGs are banned.
I will list some of my favorite items and products I use and hopefully they work for you, too.
Know What Is In Your Products
Remember, your skin "drinks" products, so safety of what you use should be a concern. Luckily, there is a site that allows you to look up product safety and find out about safety hazards in the ingredients. Skin Deep is a website sponsored by Environmental Working Group which contains vital information for anyone who uses cosmetics, skincare and beauty products. Each product is rated on a scale of 1-10 for safety; you will be shocked at what some of your favorite products rate and what diseases they cause.
Do you ever think about what you are breathing in and allowing your skin to "drink" (i.e. tanning sprays, perfumes and hairsprays)?

Check out Christopher Drummond beauty! Lots of products with NO Dimethicone! :D
I've used transdemeral medications, so I'm very aware of how many substance go through skin to bloodstream. I never use products with fragrance on my skin & use the.Skin Deep database. Dislike how dimethicone is very hard yo wash off: can still feel it on skin after bathing. No wonder people develop allergies to it!
